“adventurous”

The Tug had the pleasure of working in collaboration in the form of an interview with the lovely Maame Nyarko who is a luxury hotel blogger. The blog captures exclusive views of the hotel from the bedrooms to the spas. So let’s drive into the interview for the juicy details.

How would you describe yourself in 1 word?

I asked this question as I know it can be hard to sum ourselves up in 1 word as we can be many things on different days. Maame described herself as adventurous and I would agree for the simple fact of trying out different hotels and wondering what they have to offer.

What inspired you to start blogging and how did you decide on your niche?

A niche is narrowing down content by filtering through elements such as passions, hobbies, or talents for example. There are many options and picking one can be either be easy or hard but also can be impacted by what is trending. Always stick to what you want to do because you can become lost in the commotion of trying to keep up or lose your way and come to a sudden halt. Maame answered by telling me that her inspiration was sparked during lock down and the passion for experiencing relaxation. Of course room service was one of the reason, I mean is not a fan of having someone waiting on you and attending to your needs. Maame shares the passion with her sister as they have travelled together on multiple luxury weekends away.

How do you think your content creation skills have improved in comparison to when you started?

Creating content that is engaging and grabs the attention of others is key when marketing your brand. Social media is all about being able to visually relate to the written post and be understand the motive. Maame told me that the content creation skills are still being sculpted but there has been improvement. Maame has understood how images for her brand are what grip the audience's attention. Maame also tries to ensure that a catchy phrase is used to caption the post.

Can you tell us about the best hotel experience you have had?

We go with high expectations when staying at prestiougus or well known hotels and it is always a relief when they are up to par. Maame recounts one experience that she had at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Birmingham. Maame explaining that they blew her away with their customer service and standard of housekeeping. We all love to be treated well and feel comfortable with freshly washed sheets. The Hyatt Regency had the capability of meeting the needs and requests of Maame and provided complementary items which added to the value to the stay. There was a small hiccup with the air conditioning however the hotel were efficient in fixing the problem.

The second experience was in Finsbury Square at the Montcalm, there decor and facilities are first class. In the words of the Luxury Hotel Blogger “their customer service is unmatched” that is the type of feedback that every service should strive for. Maame can trust that she will be taken care of. Montcalm is definitely on my list of hotels to visit now!

Out of all the hotels that you have reviewed which did not meet your expectations and why?

You never want to be disappointed but it may happen. Mamme talks about her stay at the Chilworth and how it was not for her. For starters the rooms were not delightful and the beds were uncomfortable. An uncomfortable is a no for me! On the walls were visible stains and the breakfast which was served did not satisfy at all. After, Maame complained about the issues but was met with poor customer service as they did not upgrade the room and overcharged.

The Hilton hotel has had a variety of complaints even a personal one in regard to lack of service at the restaurant. Maame went to the Hilton in Islington with her husband on a romantic breakaway for their anniversary but the experience was unfortunately tainted. Being a darling husband he had prepared and organised with the hotel before their stay however none of the requests which were organised actually occurred with many trips to the front desk. The couple event missed breakfast due to the issue of communication from the hotel’s side.

What do you want to achieve with blogging?

When you create a product or a service there has to be an aim behind the project and a plan of how to reach your target audience. Maame goals are to travel the world for blogging and drop the 9-5 which we call all relate to. Achieving paid connections is there as a goal, getting paid for what you love doing is never a bad thing. Maame has the desire to also educate her audience on where to stay for their breakaways.

Are there any hotels stays sponsored and if so how do you negotiate this?

Having a clear plan is plays a part in landing your first collaboration or sponsorship. At times the as influencers we have to adapt our strategies to make something happen in our favour. Mamme has not yet been sponsored but does notify the hotel that she is a blogger which can open the door to treats.

Do you receive any feedback from the hotels you review?

Receiving feedback is highly valuable as you are able to create connections and potential customers or leads for your business. In this case this could lead to free stays and paid promotions. Both the Hyatt Regency got in touch and offered Mamme a complimentary stay when she is in Birmingham next and The Leonardo now called the Jurys inn which is located at Tower Bridge got in reached out to the Luxury Hotel Blogger.

What hotel is next on the list to be reviewed?

The Connaught in Mayfair and Champneys Spa. Mayfair screams fancy loud and clear.

At the end of the interview Mamme the Luxury Hotel Blogger has some advice for those of us who are starting or want to start a blog.

“Consistency is key the more you post the more you grow and do be afraid to network with other bloggers and share ideas. It is always tough at first but do not give up you will reach the top of the mountain eventually.”
